Kaitlyn's Blog #3

In this blog, i will be talking about section 8-1....

-To solve for (theta) you need to get the trig function by itself and then find the inverse of it.

Here is how to find (theta):

1) take the inverse of the positive number to find the quadrant 1 angle. To get to quadrant 2: make negative and add 180 degrees. To get to quadrant 3: add 180 degrees. to get to quadrant 4: make negative and add 360 degrees. An inverse has 2 answers.

Example: 4sin(theta)=2

first you must divide by 4 to get sin(theta) by itself, since that is what we are solving for.

-sin(theta)=2/4 which reduces to sin(theta)=1/2

then you must find the inverse of sin(theta)=1/2.

-(theta)=sin-1(1/2).....[if you look on your trig chart you will see that sin 1/2 is (pi)/6, and the degrees for that is 30]

on the unit circle, you will find that 30 degrees is in the first quadrant. Your answers will be

in the second and third quadrant.

-use the formula tha I have provided above. to get to the second

quadrant, make 30 negative and add 180, which is 50. to get to

the third quadrant, just add 180 t0 30, which is 210.

In conclusion, your answers are 30, 50, and 210..........

This section was pretty easy for me and I pretty much understood it fully. The class is getting much easier for me, I just have to pay real close attention in class to understand it.
