Nicala's Blog

in chapter 11 section 1

we are doin polar coordinates and graphs

formulas

x=rcos(theta)
y=sin(theta) to convert to rectangular

r=square root xsquared plus ysquare
y=sin=(theta)=convert to polar

Example: Give the polar point for (8,4)
r= square root of 8 square plus 4 square root= 4squared root 5

tan(theta)=(4/8)= 1/2
theta= tan inverse=1/2=.463

then you put the inverse on the coordinating plane
and you get the answer
-4square root 5, 180.46
4square root 5, 90.46
